Don’t put off getting medical advice

Erectile dysfunction, (ED) is far more common than has been realised.  Most men may have trouble from time to time, this is not unusual. However, if ED issues start happening on a frequent basis, don’t hesitate to get medical advice.

Fortunately, erectile dysfunction is relatively easy to treat, and if you are proactive in getting help, your sex life will soon be back on track.

Natural ways to prevent ED from taking hold

There are natural ways to prevent erectile dysfunction. You do not have to wait for symptoms to make sex difficult, or for a doctor to say there is, or is not, an underlying medical reason. Here are some good ways to lower your risk of ED:

  • If you have a tendency to be obese, keep a close eye on your weight. Obesity can lead to high cholesterol, clogged arteries, heart disease, and restricted blood flow to many areas of the body, including the genitals. A lack of blood in the genital area can aggravate ED.
  • Experts agree that cleaning up your diet will help to drop excess weight. This may mean cutting back and eating less of refined floury, sugary items, full-fat dairy, and red meat. Introduce more whole grains, fruit and vegetables, into your diet, and gradually make your portions smaller.
  • Quit smoking. Studies have indicated that men who smoke have a very high risk of developing ED, as men who do not smoke. It has also been reported that medications to assist ED problems may not work as well for men who smoke. Tobacco also adds to the narrowing of blood vessels, including those in the penis.
  • Drink moderately. A glass or two of red wine may help your libido, but if you drink too much hoping to get in the mood for sex, you might land up with a big disappointment if there is no erection at all. Alcohol is not an aphrodisiac, but rather a strong depressant, which can soften your erection and prevent you from even starting the job.
  • If your stress levels are high, you are at a high risk of having ED issues. Reducing stress levels will improve your libido.
  • High-stress levels can also lead to increased anxiety and possibly depression, which may require medication such as antidepressants. It is a well-researched fact that ED is a common side effect of many prescription drugs, especially antidepressants.
  • Keep a check on your testosterone levels, as they start to decrease gradually around 30 years of age. If there is a problem, and it suddenly gets too low, it can affect your sex drive and the ability to get, or maintain, an erection. A blood test can establish whether you have low T, and there are very effective ways to treat it.

Take action now to help ensure that you do not become a permanent victim of erectile dysfunction. Make the necessary changes to keep ED at bay, and look forward to a long and healthy sex life.
