The tight pants syndrome is an actual medical disorder known as meralgia paresthetica. It is caused by tight pants that compress the nerve (sciatic) that runs from the base of the spine down the legs.

This causes pain in the lower back and the legs, and may need anti-inflammatory meds to get relief. Extremely tight clothes, like skinny jeans for example, can put additional stress on the stomach and intestines, and lead to digestive issues such as heartburn and acid reflux. TPS may also squash your organs upward and push unneeded acid into the stomach, and worsen problems like indigestion and heartburn.

How tight is too tight?

Everyone will feel the degree of tightness differently, as what may feel too tight for one person, may feel just right for another.

Some signs that may indicate your favourite outfit is indeed too tight:

  • Pressure marks around your middle.
  • Red marks on the skin where there may have been some chaffing by the clothing.
  • Skin irritation in the groin area.
  • Numbness or tingling in the legs or toes.
  • Restricted movements.
  • Tight corset-type tops can restrict breathing, and cause a lack of oxygen and poor circulation.

If you have any of the symptoms, it may be time to examine your clothing and see what changes need to be made to guard your health.

Some health issues which may result from tight clothes

We all wear whatever makes us feel good and confident, but it is important to know the consequences of wearing clothing which is too tight to be healthy.

  • Contributes to poor circulation to many parts of the body. This can lead to problems of deep vein thrombosis in people who are overweight, and have other vascular issues.
  • Tight underwear and leggings can also limit blood flow and may cause cellulite on the upper thighs.
  • Very snug-fitting denim jeans, panty hose and tight underwear, which increase the temperature and moisture in the intimate areas, can lead to unpleasant yeast infections in men and women.
  • After a workout, immediately change out of sweaty clothes, as form-fitting damp workout clothing may also result in a yeast infection.

    Sexuality

    Studies have shown that men who wear tight underpants, for example, are putting their fertility at risk. These undergarments compress and raise the temperature of the testicles, impeding the production and quality of sperm needed for reproduction.

    In addition to the fact that due to circulatory issues, there may not be a strong blood flow to the penis, and could result in a measure of erectile dysfunction. It has also been noted that women who wear extremely tight jeans or pants, have complained of vaginal dryness and irritation during sexual encounters. There is in fact nothing wrong with wearing tight clothes, but if you have any of the symptoms, it may be better to have just a few items in that line, and purchase other items still to your liking, to fill up the gaps - but which will be a better fit for you as well as for your health.
