What is the prostate?

The prostate is a small gland situated between the bladder and the urethra. The urethra is a tube in the penis through which you urinate.  The urine has to pass through the prostate after it leaves the bladder. Under normal circumstances, the urine passes easily through the prostate, into the urethra, and exits the body.

The prostate is part of the male reproductive system, and its most important function is the production of a fluid that, together with sperm cells from the testicles, makes up semen.

The muscles of a healthy prostate force the semen into the urethra so that it can be expelled during ejaculation.

How prostate disease may result in various health issues

Unfortunately, there are circumstances that may cause the prostate to enlarge, narrowing the urethral tube, slowing the flow of urine, and often not allowing the bladder to empty properly. You may be left with an ongoing feeling that you still need to urinate. This is not usually a sign of prostate cancer, and most tests will present a diagnosis of benign growth of the prostate, medically known as BPH. It can, however, lead to erection difficulties, difficulty urinating, and potential infertility.

Symptoms can include an infection in the prostate, a burning pain when urinating, and, in some instances, painful ejaculation. The infection, also known as prostatitis, passed on during unprotected sex, can certainly interfere with sexual pleasure when unpleasant issues are hanging over your head. Treatment from the doctor will undoubtedly include a lengthy period of antibiotic medications to deal with the infected prostate gland.

Medications which may help prostate-related ED

Anti-inflammatory meds will also help to promote blood flow to the genital area, and particularly the penis. The theory is that the increased blood flow to the bladder and the prostate may allow the muscles to relax, which will lead to a greater urinary flow. When there is less pressure on the urethra and more blood in the penile area, ED symptoms may be successfully reduced. The study results also indicated that positive improvement was noted in men who had both BPH and ED conditions.

Your first action if your suspect prostate issues must be to visit your health professional for a thorough examination. Don’t procrastinate. If there are any signs of erection problems, or urinating difficulties, get medical advice without delay. Early diagnosis and treatment could save your sex life from expiring, and your confidence from collapsing!
