Are you sexually frustrated?
What exactly does that mean?
Sexual frustration is best described as the response to there being an imbalance between what you want or need sexually, and what you are currently experiencing. Not everyone is the same, and it gives rise to different emotions in each individual person.
For some, sexual frustration may manifest as a low-grade general feeling of anger or agitation, while in others is could lead to depression and anxiety.
The root causes of the frustration may include one or more of the following:
- A lack of arousal
- Orgasm problems such a lack of intensity, or difficulty reaching an orgasm
- Having a different type of sex to that which you want to be experiencing
- Not as much sex as you would like to have
- A perceived lack of sexual desire in your partner
Studies have also shown that what some folk might believe is sexual frustration, may actually be a lack of satisfaction with something else which might be going on in their lives.
Some reasons why sexual frustration might happen
If you suffer from extreme anxiety or depression, this can also be a passion killer. Some of the medications such as antidepressants, are known to have side effects which negatively affect libido and sexual desire. One, or both partners may then suffer from sexual frustration, which can lead to a general dissatisfaction in the relationship. It would be best to visit the doctor for advice about the meds.
In any relationship, sexual tastes and preferences may change over time. If you are in a partnership where you do not have a good level of communication with each other, changes in feelings not communicated may lead to frustration that can damage the relationship. It could be that you and your partner are no longer sexually compatible
It is normal if you feel sexually frustrated
The feelings you are having are totally normal and not out of sync with the rest of the world. The media, like TV, magazines and books, is designed to make folk feel that something is wrong if they are not having mind-blowing sex all the time. Whether you are male or female, it is inevitable that almost everyone will experience a measure of sexual frustration at some point in life.
This is also normal and is mainly a result of 2 simple reasons, namely because you want to have sex and your partner doesn’t, or because you are wanting to have sex and don’t have anyone to do it with.
Of course if this is your situation, it won’t seem normal at all. It just makes you feel frustrated, grumpy, and irritable.
And some women who have sex too soon after children, may find sex painful and want to postpone resuming sexual relations for a while. This can also lead to frustration for their partners.
A sexual encounter seems so simple, but it can also be fraught with so many twists and turns which may not result in a satisfactory conclusion for either partner.
Sex is a very important part of any relationship, and the key to success is not to ignore any problems, but to open up good communication channels with each other that will benefit both partners.
