What exactly is testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone produced by the testicles, and is essential for the proper development of male sexual characteristics. It is also important for building and maintaining muscle bulk, normal bone growth, and for good levels of red blood cells.

This is a vital hormone in the male body, and contributes in a major way to sexuality issues such as erections, stamina, libido, and sexual satisfaction. Proper levels of testosterone are very important for a man’s feelings of well-being, and most of all for the stimulation of a healthy sex drive. It is also the main hormone which makes men and women so different in many aspects, both physical and emotional

Some symptoms of low testosterone levels (low T):

  • Low sex drive, and erection problems.
  • Fertility issues due to lower sperm production, and less semen available to transport the sperm to the egg.
  • Facial and body hair loss is also linked to low T.
  • A general lack of energy, and sometimes complete fatigue, may arise.

These symptoms are more prevalent in older men, but do not include medical reasons which have not been diagnosed. If you do have concerns about anything, whether you are older or younger, visit the doctor for advice.

You may be putting your health at risk

It is a well-known fact that athletes use anabolic steroids in the form of testosterone made in a laboratory. The use of this drug is highly illegal in all kinds of athletic competitions or meetings. Artificial testosterone is used for extra muscle-bulk, and to improve stamina and endurance during competitions. An athlete who tests positive for such a banned substance can be suspended for life.
Unfortunately, although many take a chance and use steroids, not everyone is caught – or even tested. Chemical testosterone in the form of anabolic steroids can only be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. However, for those desperate to have it, it is easily obtainable on the black market.

Here are some of the dangers that may occur if you are taking in more testosterone than your body needs:

  • Fatal blood clots, as it increases the clotting factors in the blood.
  • Testosterone raises red blood cell count, which thickens blood and makes it flow more slowly to areas where it is needed.
  • The blood disturbances can result in the formation of a dangerous deep-vein-thrombosis – DVD - and possible heart failure or a heart attack.

Rising concern has been expressed by the American FDA, that more and more young men are starting to take testosterone to make themselves look more attractive by bulking up their muscles. There may be medical reasons for a T booster. To establish T levels, visit the doctor for tests before opting for a testosterone booster, which should always be under a doctor’s supervision.
